Kenyan agency plans big chilly chain facility in East Africa

A leading Kenyan warehouse and logistics service provider Cold Solutions, says it’ll make investments USD 70 million to assemble the largest cold chain facility in East Africa to deal with challenges that face transportation of perishable goods.
Cold Solution’s 15,000 sqm flagship facility in Tatu City Special Economic Zone in Nairobi would be the largest, most superior and efficient in the region. The chilly chain facility is flexibly designed to cater for numerous temperature ranges from +26 to -40 C and a quantity of product ranges, from recent fruit and greens, to prescribed drugs and vaccines, meats and poultry, and frozen meals.

“Cold Solutions’ one-stop-shops are designed to permit businesses to maintain track of products in real-time and facilitate transportation throughout East Africa via temperature-controlled trucks, either throughout the inner city or to long-haul locations,” mentioned Jared Irving, Managing Director, ARCH.

The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization estimates that over 40% of meals in Sub-Saharan Africa perishes before it reaches a consumer. This may be as high as 60% for fresh produce in Sub-Saharan Africa.
